KRAKEN 2×72 Belt Grinder Kit
Build your own belt grinder with the KRAKEN weld-together kit from Merlin’s Fab. Its laser-cut tab-and-slot steel construction helps locate parts during assembly, and the grinder rotates between vertical and horizontal use with a positive lock in both positions.
What is included?
- Precision laser-cut .250-inch and .375-inch A36 HRPO steel parts
- 5-inch drive wheel and 3-inch tension wheel
- Assembly hardware, including bolts, shoulder bolts, Oilite bronze bushings, shims, washers and nuts
What do I need to supply?
This is a kit, not a complete running grinder. Supply a 56C face motor and a VFD; the design is intended for a 2 HP motor. The motor and VFD are not included.
The tooling arm, platen assembly and tool rest are also not included. The KRAKEN platen and tooling arm kit is available separately. Source a suitable tool rest separately.

- Two tooling arm slots allow a platen and tool rest to be used together
- Protected tooling arm slots help reduce galling from the clamping handle
- Ratchet-and-pawl belt tensioning system
- Belt tracking that pivots the motor and drive wheel
- Oilite bronze bushings and shoulder bolts at pivot points for servicing
Assembly requirements
Welding and tapping several holes are required. You will also need basic hand tools and hex wrenches. Check the included parts and plan your motor, VFD and tooling before starting your build.
